In the current century, digital libraries are expected to gain ground in India. Virtual libraries come in several different ways. They try to make digitized access accessible immediately. A digital library is a library that holds items in digital formats (as opposed to printing, micro forming, or other media) and is available by computers. The information can be stored locally, or remotely accessible. The earliest published use of the term may have been National Research Initiatives, in a 1988 report to the Corporation. The term first became popular through the 1994 NSF / DARPA / NASA Digital Libraries Initiative. Bush (1945) created a vision based on the Digital library experience.
