A Review on the Herbal Plants used in the Treatment of Peptic Ulcer
Abstract
A peptic ulcer is a mostly occurring disease of the gastrointestinal tract that is commonly acidic. Formation of Peptic ulcer occurred due to excess of acid, in gastric juice peptic activity by a breakdown in mucosal defenses. Some of anti-ulcer medicines such as H2 receptor antagonists and proton pump inhibitors are used for the treatment of ulcer. However, these drugs have shown disease relapse, drug interactions, and side effects. Many medicinal plants have found useful in the treatment of peptic ulcer. The purpose of this review is to know more about the anti-ulcer properties of the medicinal plants, and about some medicinal plant which used in the treatment of ulcer disease such as Aloe vera (L.), Rhizophora mangle L, Ocimum sanctum Linn, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Asparagus racemosus Willd. By their mechanisms these plants were studied underlying to the gastroprotective effect.
