<p>Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a chronic heart condition that develops as a complication of untreated or inadequately treated streptococcal throat infections, particularly those caused by the Group A streptococcus bacteria. Although once a significant global health concern, improvements in healthcare and antibiotics have reduced its prevalence in many developed countries.
